The first thing many people ask about Hope Alethia is its name. So, how did the name come about?

Hope is my baptism name, and Alethia is a little childhood (ok maybe more of teeny) thing I had with my friends (we thought we were gonna form a band or something). We all ended off our emails with _alethia and and it stuck with me through my post-teeny-boppy years.

The name Hope Alethia is something very personal to me and is literally an extension of my identity. So I decided to use this name when starting my own label and even though I own the label alone, the girlfriends have contributed greatly in one way or another. Oh and of course, the boyfriend Adrian - who helps in every way possible :)

Ok digressed. I found out later that the name Alethia means 'truth'. Hence, while the origins of Hope Alethia was not meant to stand for Hope & Truth, it makes a good slogan and is in line with my conviction of giving a little hope to those who need it and to always be true in whatever I do.

When did Hope Alethia start?

Hope Alethia made its debut collection in early 2010 offering a range of supplied stock lovingly selected and offered at affordable prices.

Then we moved on very quickly to design and manufacture our own label which was the initial idea behind Hope Alethia.

Why have a manufactured label?

I love doodling and creating stuff, and always wished to have my own designs. As many always say:

"If you do what you love, you'll love what you do", so why not put my interests into action! It always helps to have interest in what you're doing so it doesn't end up a chore. Currently loving every bit of Hope Alethia and though it gets tiring at times, it's still an awesome opportunity and ought to be cherished.

Hope Label is a special collection under Hope Alethia that is committed to doing some good in the world.

It's always a blessing to bless others, especially given our privileged circumstances and I think there are many people who have the heart of giving but often have no time and don't know how to start. So Hope Alethia makes it simple by donating $1 from each dress under Hope Label to a charity of choice (see below).


Currently, all the manufactured pieces are under the Hope Label, but taking in feedback from friends and customers, we've started Quintessentials , a line under Hope Alethia featuring casual designs that are more suitable for everyday wear, yet still bearing our style of quality and class.
